September 4th, Irving Oil Coca Cola 250

The biggest weekend at the New Brunswick International Speedway finally arrived. It's what most drivers look forward to each year for the whole season. This year added more excitement as Johnny Benson was on hand to try his hand at winning the purse. Drivers drew numbers as they entered the pits to determine where they would draw in the drivers meeting. At the meeting Jody drew a not so good number and had to start 9th in the last heat. His car was hooked up and working well. Jody was moving his way through the field. He caught the 5th place car of #28, Kirk Thebeau. He tried to pass him on the outside but the #28 didn't give him the room. The two battled for a few laps and one lap the #28 drove too high into turn 1 and Jody got underneath him. Jody clearly had the spot but Kirk didn't seem to notice and he cut down on Jody. He spun in turn 2 and got the car stuck in gear and went down 2 laps because the caution never came out. He had to be pushed off the track. In the pits, the crew worked hard on the car to try to get it working again. They ended up having to borrow a transmission from Myles Harris in order to make every attempt to qualify. He should have started 9th in one of the consilation races. He was pushed out onto the track and made one lap then came back to the pits while waiting for the other transmission to arrive. Once the transmission got there it didn't take too long to put it in and it was in just in time to start the Last Chance race in 16th place. Jody's car was working well but only the top 2 cars qualified for the main event. Jody finished 4th. It was a waiting game for a few minutes until they announced that Jody got the final starting postion in the 28 car grid. This feature was caution filled and took over 3 hrs to complete. Jody's goal before the race was just to finish the race. Unfortunately due to no fault of his own, Jody was unable to complete that goal. He pitted and remained in the pits for the duration of the race. It just didn't seem worth while staying on the track with all the cautions and accidents that kept happening. Jody wasn't the first car not to finish. He finished the race in 20th place and won $870 which pales in comparison to what the team spends in order to get ready for the 250. The car came home almost in one piece and the crew will have a couple of weeks to get the car race ready for the second to last points race on September 18th.

August 27th, Back to Regular Points Racing

With this week being the weekend before the big 250 Weekend, everyone was trying to get their cars set up so they might be competitive for the biggest race for the Pro Stocks. Jody began on the pole in the 2nd heat on this regular points night. He finished 4th behind Darren Sherwood, Paul Gahan and Leon Christie. He started 8th in the dash and finished 5th. Jody began 3rd in the feature and fought with the #29 of Robert Tomlinson for several laps and was able to take the lead on lap 5. There was a caution on lap 17 involving the #29 in turn 2 and Jody was still in the lead. He was passed on the next lap so when the caution came out on lap 18 for several cars in turn 2, Jody was 2nd. On the restart, the #66, Paul Gahan, got Jody sideways which in turn stacked up the field behind them and this caused a big pile up in turn 3. The #9, Leon Christie, and #79, Dana Duncan, got the brunt of it. On the restart, the #8 Hal O'Neil spun. There was another caution on lap 24, involving several cars. Jody pitted and returned to the track in 11th place. He went on to finish 8th.

August 20th, Ladies Night Excitement

Although it was Ladies Night at the speedway, the ladies weren't the only ones that were in the spotlight. Jody started 5th in heat 1. The #29 of Robert Tomlinson and the #31 of Myles Harris tangled and alot of the cars went into the sand to avoid the mess. Jody did the same and ended up getting stuck in the sand. But even after that, he finished 2nd in the end making the dash. He started the dash in the 3rd position and in a caution free race, finished 5th. Jody lined up 5th for the feature and managed to keep that position to the end of the race amid much excitement between the race leaders of #8 Hal O'Neil, #48 Dave O'Blenis and the #81 of Glen Rasmussen. As mentioned, the night was Ladies Night. Janice, Jody's wife, drove the #12 street stock car of Don Matheson. Being a well seasoned pro with the Ladies race, Janice looked like she would be a favourite to win the race. She finished 7th in the 12 car field. She took the lead by lap 3 and looked like she might take the win. On lap 8, the #8 driven by Mindy Goodine, a friend of Cody Price, spun on the front stretch and was still in the lead. The ladies were coming around turn 4 to take the checkered flag when the #8 ran into the back of Janice and spun her taking the lead away from her and ruining Janice's chance to win again this year. Janice retired to the pits after this incident and finished last in the end. It was a great show by the ladies. Some of which showed the regular drivers that a lady can drive!

August 13th, Day of the 100 Lap Features

Because rain ended the second Best of the Best race on July 1st, the finish of the race was postponed to this weekend. This first feature was the very first event of the evening. Jody began the feature in 3rd position in what turned out to be a caution filled event. After all the cautions and accidents that unfolded in this first feature, Jody managed to come out with an 8th place finish. As soon as this feature was over, they began getting ready for the second 100 lap leg. Jody began 3rd in the first heat and finished where he began after a hard run. He began the feature in 5th place and was in 7th place by lap 19. He spun on lap 28 and went to the pits and came out 2 laps down before being able to return to the track. There were many more cautions and Jody was lapped once more before the end of the feature. Although not finishing top 5, he still finished the race with his car in one piece and finished 14th in the end.

August 7th Day 2 of Double Header Weekend

After having the day off Saturday and the previous weekend off, Jody was ready to come back and have a good run. He began 2nd in the 2nd heat and he ended up finishing 3rd. He qualified for the dash with that finish and started 5th. As in the heat, he was able to finish 3rd in the dash. This feature was a more lengthy one than normal. Because of all the rainouts in May, this feature was extended to 50 laps instead of the usual 40. Jody began this feature on the outside pole he got loose and got stuck on the high side and fell back to 8th. There was a caution on lap 12 that involved the #92 and #00 and Jody pitted. On lap 38 Jody spun and restarted at the back. More bad luck followed Jody, when something let go or went a miss on lap 42 and he had to pit and end his day.

July 16th DQ Kids Day

Jody Harris Started his Vance's Auto Supplies Monte Carlo 7th in the second heat and went on to finish 5th, Qualifying him for a spot in the dash where he started 9th and finished 8th. For the feature the #24 Stan Leslie Chevy lined up 9th with numerous cautions throughout the event, Jody was able to pit for some air pressure adjustments on lap 32 he restarted the field 12th. On the restart once the cars has settled into the bottom lane they got stacked up coming down the back stretch leaving Jody the high side to himself which he used to his advantage when the caution came out again on lap 37 Jody was in 5th. He went on to cross the line 4th.

First Best of the best
Jody Started 5th in the 2nd heat, and went on to finish 6th giving him a 12th place starting spot in the feature. Jody would go on to finish a strong 8th place.

Hat Trick

Jody Harris started his #24 D. Harris Auto Repair Monte Carlo on the outside poll of the #55 Jerry Curtis. Taking the lead with power down the back stretch to lead lap 1. Jody went on to lead every lap holding off hard charges from the #55 and the #66. Jody Started the Dash on the pole and held off the #81 and the #66 fo the win. For the feature Jody Started outside pole of the #55 and once again using power down the back stretch to take the leap on lap 1. After numerous cautions throughout the race, Jody once again held off charges from #66, #29, and with 2 laps to go the #10 of Kevin Moore came on to the scene amd battled Jody right down to the finish, with both cars getting sideways coming to the line. After 11 years of racing at NBIS this is Jodys first hat trick.
